Special thanks to Jessica Huang, Dan Lindsey, Jordan Jacobson, Laura Forde, Sara Morgan, and the whole Creative Marketing Crew!
OverviewThis summer, I interned with The New York Times as a Motion Designer on the Creative Marketing team, collaborating with senior designers, copywriters, and creative directors on campaigns across social and paid display channels.
As The Times launched new marketing campaigns throughout the summer, I helped expand its animation library by developing adaptable motion language that could scale across future marketing work. I contributed to three major campaigns released nationally and internationally, with work published across The Times' social media platforms.
Family Plan
Evergreen refresh of promotional materials for NYT’s 4-slot Family Plan subscription. Launched Summer 2026 in North America across social, email, and display channels.

This idea carried through in speech bubbles, typing animations, and text reactions. I designed a custom set of simple Times emojis for the campaign, which was a treat!
I also enjoyed experimenting with the modularity of a four-slot plan, finding playful ways to bring the Times’ avatars together through motion. One of my favorite executions featured avatars popping and falling into place, which I coded in p5.js to achieve proper physics. I’m especially proud that every execution shown here made it into final production and was released by The Times. All-Access International
Promoting the Times’ All Access subscription to international audiences. Launched Summer 2026 in Europe, The UK, Australia, and Canada across social, email, and display channels.

The campaign involved researching relevant news stories and cultural touchpoints across the regions we were targeting, which gave me a new perspective on the work.
The rotating World/Wordle carousel was my favorite motion behavior from the summer. I loved playing with the macro-to-micro concept, moving from imagery of the world to the familiar daily ritual of Wordle. Adapting the animation for horizontal banner displays was a challenge, but I’m proud of how well the two formats ended up working together. 175th Anniversary
Promoting an enterprise-wide sale celebrating the Times’ 175th anniversary, launched in fall 2026 in North America across social, email and display channels. My internship ended during the campaign’s early stages, so my contributions were the early concepts shown below. These were further developed after I left.

The brief was complex: highlighting the breadth and depth of its coverage and the people behind the news, while honoring its history and legacy and looking toward the future.
I spent a lot of time digging through video archives for footage to bring these concepts to life, which led to some very editorial-looking drafts. One of the perks of designing for The Times is having such an incredible archive of visuals to work with!
That’s a wrap! This summer gave me the chance to immerse myself in motion design while learning what it takes to bring creative work to life in a professional setting. Seeing campaigns move from concept through production was especially valuable, as the process looks so different on a corporate team than it does in design school.
Working alongside senior designers, copywriters, strategists, and creatives of all kinds was an incredible learning experience. I’m grateful to Jessica for being such a supportive manager, and to the entire Creative Marketing team for giving me so much room to explore and grow.
Seeing work I conceptualized and brought through production out in the world has been incredibly rewarding. It’s exciting to know these campaigns helped introduce new audiences to the breadth of journalism and storytelling The Times has to offer. I’m proud to have played a part in that work, and I look forward to carrying what I’ve learned into future projects!
